2019 Album of the Year

Once again it's time for my Album of the Year post. I know you are all excited. I can feel the anticipation. It's thick in the air like some kind of chowder that has been left out in the sun for too long. Gross! What was I talking about? Oh yeah! The 2019 Album of the Year! Below are seven albums I think you should know about from this past year. They are in order of which they were released. Then at the bottom, I will unveil my top pick for 2019!

And....here....we...go!

1/25/19
Keuning - Prismism
Prismism is the first solo release by Dave Keuning, guitar player for The Killers (one of my favorite bands). I'm always excited when I hear anything by The Killers or members of the band. This album starts out strong and has a few really great tracks like "Restless Legs" and "Pretty Faithful" but all the songs just kind of run together for me. I like the album and I have listened to is quite a bit, but is it really "album of the year" material?

2/1/19
White Lies - Five
This is a band that I had not heard of before 2019. I honestly don't know where I even first heard of them. It might have been when I was listening to BBC Radio. Nevertheless, I heard the song "Tokyo" and was hooked. I don't know the rest of the band's catalog but Five is a really solid album.

5/24/19
Swimming Tapes - Morningside
Now, this is an album I have been waiting on for years and it did not disappoint. I first heard this band on some random playlist curated by Spotify. I had been listening to their singles and EPs for a couple years now. When I saw they were releasing a proper album, I was ecstatic. It's a great chill album to listen to on a warm sunny day at the beach (or if you want to just feel like you are on the beach).

7/19/19
Generationals - Reader As Detective
Last year, Generationals has one of the best albums I had heard in a long time. Though it didn't make it as my Album of the Year, it was one of my favorites. I was super stoked to find out they had a follow-up album so soon after the last. This one wasn't quite as good as last year's album. It has some good songs but just didn't have the same enthusiasm that the last album did.

8/9/10
Chali 2na and Krafty Kuts - Adventures Of A Reluctant Superhero
Chali 2na is a favorite of mine from back in the days of Jurassic 5. C'mon! He's the verbal Herman Muster! Honestly, I don't know who Krafty Kuts is but this is a pretty solid album. It's great to hear a hip hop/rap album that sounds a little more like old school hip hop. And the fact that this album features Lyrics Born, is pretty awesome to me.

9/27/19
Vacationer - Wavelengths
This album is completely instrumental and it's amazing. I can't stop listening to it. Is has a chill vibe to it but still with some really strong beats. I can't even begin to wrap my brain around what genre to even put this in. Is it is chillwave, jazz, hip-hop, electronic...it's an infusion of all of the above. It's unlike anything I've heard before and it's so great. Do yourself a huge favor and listen to the whole album over and over and over.

9/6/19
Post Malone - Hollywood is Bleeding
Oh, Posty. I really REALLY loved Beerbongs and Bentleys. It was last year's album of the year. It was so incredible. This one is much more poppy and just kind of fell flat. I feel like Beerbongs and Bentleys was made from Post Malones heart and this one was just quickly thrown together to capitalize on his fame. I can't blame him for it. It'd do the same thing. It just doesn't hit the same chords with me as last year's album. There are a few really great songs on here like "Wow" and "Sunflower," but overall it's just kind of meh.

AND NOW COMES THE BIG ANNOUNCEMENT.
YOU'VE WAITED FOR ALL YEAR! HERE IT IS!

MY 2019 ALBUM OF THE YEAR IS...

VACATIONER - WAVELENGTHS

It's so freaking good. Even though it's an instrumental, it's just from another world. Amazing! You can listen to the full album with this video below. You can also find Vacationer on Spotify, iTunes, etc. I hope you find this album to be as amazing as I did.
