2022 Album of the Year!

This year is going to be a little different. In addition to the ALBUM OF THE YEAR, I am also going to give you my SONG OF THE YEAR. Music is very personal. It tells a story and allows for a glimpse into one's soul. We may not always know how to express feelings but we can typically find a song that touches on those emotions. This has been an emotional year for me and I think the songs of the year will exemplify that. Nevertheless, these five songs meant something to me this past year and I believe were some of the best songs of 2022. And after that, the reason you all came to this blog post, we will countdown to the ALBUM OF THE YEAR! Song of the Year Countdown 5. "Heat Wave" - Glass Animals 4. "Then It All Goes Away" - Dayglow 3. "As It Was" - Harry Styles 2. "BORED, & WORSE... FINE WITH IT!" - Basic Printer 1. "Hurts But it Goes Away" - The Head and The Heart Here are the five complete albums that stood out this year with numb...

2021 Album of the Year

Image
2021 is ending and it's time to reflect on the albums that made the soundtrack of the year and ultimately crown one album the highly coveted "Album of the Year!" Before we move any further let's get the shameless self-promotion out of the way. In addition to writing this blog every year, I also produce music under the name Creative Culture and this year has been very prolific. You can stream all of it on Spotify , including this year's Christmas song, a new take on an old classic, " Silent Night ."  Now that we got that out of the way, on to the music that filled our ears in 2021.  Parlour Magic - The Fluid Neon Origami Trick  I picked up this album after seeing ads for it on Facebook. It's a great indie electronic album from start to finish. The soothing synth sounds paired with the auto-tuned electronic voice create a listening experience that you'll want to put on loop. I'd give this album an A. dad sports - I AM JUST A BOY LEAVE ME ALO...

2020 Album of the Year - 10 Year Anniversary Edition!

Image
I have been writing this blog for 10 years now. It started with a friend of mine back in 2010 posting the question on Facebook asking what we thought was the album of the year. So I decided to start a blog. One post every year. That's it. People wait every year to hear what I have chosen as the greatest album that year. Ok...well, maybe they don't but I like to believe that someone out there cares. Let's start with a recap of the past winners. And in the end, I will name an album of the decade.  I even created a playlist on Spotify with all of the Album of the Year winners. (See below.) Spoiler alert! The playlist includes the 2020 winner. So if you haven't read all the way to the bottom, maybe scroll past this and listen later.  2010 (The only co-winner year)  Brandon Flowers - Flamingo My Chemical Romance - Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys 2011 Big Talk - Big talk 2012 Bruce Springsteen - Wrecking Ball 2013 FM Attack - Deja Vu 2014 Neon Trees - Pop...

2019 Album of the Year

Image
Once again it's time for my Album of the Year post. I know you are all excited. I can feel the anticipation. It's thick in the air like some kind of chowder that has been left out in the sun for too long. Gross! What was I talking about? Oh yeah! The 2019 Album of the Year! Below are seven albums I think you should know about from this past year. They are in order of which they were released. Then at the bottom, I will unveil my top pick for 2019!  And....here....we...go! 1/25/19 Keuning - Prismism  Prismism is the first solo release by Dave Keuning, guitar player for The Killers (one of my favorite bands). I'm always excited when I hear anything by The Killers or members of the band. This album starts out strong and has a few really great tracks like "Restless Legs" and "Pretty Faithful" but all the songs just kind of run together for me. I like the album and I have listened to is quite a bit, but is it really "album of t...

2018 Album of the Year

Image
Wow! It's been eight years that I have been doing this. I'm not sure if anyone actually reads these blogs. I keep hoping that one of these "album of the year" winners will actually see that one fan out here believes their album was the best album that year. Here is a list of the albums that were released in 2018 that I bought in 2018. I bought other music this year but not all of it was from 2018. Nevertheless, here is the list of what I bought. Read through my short reviews and then see my BIG reveal at the end for my Album of the Year! Fall Out Boy - Mania (Jan. 19, 2018) Fall Out Boy is one of my absolute favorite bands. Their sound has evolved throughout the years which I think it a good thing. When an artist evolves a bit and changes up their sound over time I think it can prolong their career and their appeal to a new generation of listeners. If they still had their emo sound from the early 2000s, they wouldn't get any airplay. Look at all the...
